Hello, Top 50!

Guys, we’ve officially DONE IT!  College of the Canyons is now in the top fifty schools in ONE’s Campus Challenge!  This is all thanks to YOU.

Without your support throughout the past week, we wouldn’t have sky rocketed from #649 to #48!  That’s an up in ranking by six hundred and one schools!

We won’t stop there, though!  COC has surpassed major schools in California, like UCLA!  We’re rallying together to make ONE big difference, so lets keep it up!

RECRUIT YOURSELF if you haven’t already!  If you aren’t quite sure how to recruit yourself, read this easy 1-2-3 how-to!

How Do I Recruit Myself?

This seems to be a popular question amongst my ONE supporters.  The process is really quite simple!

Here’s what you do:
① Head over to COC’s OCC site (click!).
② On the right side of the page, you will find a box that allows you to recruit (it looks like this).
③ Fill it out (name+email+status) and join!

It’s as easy as 1-2-3, literally! :)

Drea Rewal (hello :)) was mentioned in the OCC blog as one of the new leaders! Representing College of the Canyons, we are the ONLY SCHOOL in California to begin the ONE journey in this blog! Lets represent California and get some mad points racked up!

Recruit yourself as part of COC OCC’s team!

Yesterday, we reached some high goals! Not as many recruits through the FB group signed themselves up on the official OCC site (yet ;)) but we upped our rank from #123 to #64!! That’s HUGE! We can get into the top 25 if we get more sign ups!
So if you’re an attending COC student, or an alum, or a friend/relative of a student, PLEASE SIGN UP! It takes literally five seconds, and will help COC rise to be one of the top ranking schools!

In just ONE day...

We’ve reached our 100 member goal! COC OCC now has 100+ members on Facebook! If you attend COC, are a member of the COC OCC FB group, or are a friend/relative of a COC student/alum, please sign up as so at COC’s ONE Campaign page!

We currently have 2,500 points! Great start! BUT, if each member of the FB group sign up, that’ll be roughly 10,200 points!

That’s a total of 12,700 points! Which pushes our rank from #123 to #36!! Amazing! Get your friends to sign up as a friend of a COC student and lets start racking up more points!!

TODAY’S THE DAY.
I’ve officially been named President of ONE at College of the Canyons!  Now is my time to elaborate on what ONE’s mission is, and who I am how how together as one, we can make a big, big change!
ONE was founded by eleven organizations: Bread for the World, CARE, DATA, International Medical Corps, International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Oxfam America, Plan USA, Save the Children U.S., World Concern, and World Vision.  ONE’s mission is to eliminate global poverty as well as treat curable diseases in third world countries.  Throughout the years, ONE has garnered over 2.4 million members to help the fight in global poverty!  Check out the timeline to see how ONE has made a difference: 16 May 2004. The official ONE rally launch at Liberty Mall in Philadelphia.  Roughly 2,000 attended the rally, including notable persons Bono, Dikembe Mutombo, Michael W. Smith, Richard Stearns (President of World Vision), and David Beckmann (President of Bread for the World). December 2004. ONE announces a $3 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.  In correspondence to the announcement, Mark McKinnon (adviser to President Bush) and Mike McCurry (adviser to the Kerry Campaign) appeared on CNN’s Inside Politics with Judy Woodruff in ONE’s support. 22 May 2007. The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria announced that it had saved 1.8 million lives since 2002, as well as roughly doubling the services in the past year.  ONE members had advocated for the increases to the Global Fund in both 2006 and 2007. June 2007. ONE launched ONE Vote ‘08 to mobilize American voters to engage the presidential candidates about the issues of global poverty and diseases.  ONE Vote ‘08 is co-chaired by former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Bill Frist (R-TN).  In addition, the ONE initiative has gained official and unofficial endorsements from presidential candidates John Edwards and Bill Richardson. 2008. ONE merged with DATA.  The two organizations are now run by CEO David Lane.

NOW AS FOR ME…Well, my name is Dréa Rewal.  (That’s me in the middle of the COC ONE Blog logo :))  I’ve been an active advocate of the ONE Campaign and (PRODUCT)RED since both of their launches in 2004 and 2006 (respectively).  I have campaigned with both organizations throughout southern California throughout the years, helping to raise awareness for both causes.  Solo, I’ve provided over five months of live-saving medicine via PRODUCT(RED).  I’m an early graduate from West Ranch High School (‘09), and have been attending College of the Canyons since 2007.
I’m beyond ecstatic about being elected President of OCC COC!  I’m hoping to raise awareness on campus through many fun, interactive events and will be planning a first meeting very soon!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me and I will get back to you right away!
